frequently asked questions about chiropractic services

Your health matters

Chiropractic is not just an investment for your back; it is an investment for your overall health. Many Americans suffer from misaligned vertebrae, known as subluxations, without even knowing it. Subluxations are usually painless because only a small percentage of the nerves that make up the nervous system are responsible for pain and pleasure. The nervous system consists of the brain, spinal, cord, and spinal nerves that connect throughout the body and its tissues. Thus, this system controls and coordinates every cell in the body. The human body cannot express optimal health with subluxations, which hinder clear and health pathways for the nervous system.

Why Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a drug-less profession. The role of chiropractor is to detect spinal mis-alignments, called subluxations. These subluxations cause interference of the nerve system. When the chiropractor analyzes the spine and detects a spinal subluxation is present, she will perform an adjustment. The adjustment is designed to correct the alignment of the spine and remove the interference of the brain to body connection. Restoring the brain to body connection, enhances the function of the body's ability to function at its maximum potential.

Subluxations are caused by stresses in the body. These stresses can be emotional, chemical, or physical. Most of the nerve system has nothing to do with pain or pleasure. Therefore, subluxations can be present for years and sometimes decades before symptoms occur. To learn more about subluxations, visit

What happens during my appointment?

The role of a chiropractor is to analyze, detect, and correct vertebral subluxations. A spinal adjustment is performed by hand. A side effect of correcting the subluxations may be pain relief. Many find specific chiropractic adjustments relieve a spectrum of ailments such as headaches, menstrual cramps, allergies, asthma, stomach disorders, spastic colon, as well as arm, hand, and leg pain that's due to interference in the spinal cord or the nerves exiting the spine.

A chiropractor will take a medical history, conduct physical, neurological, and orthopedic examinations. Chiropractic physicians spend a considerable amount of time assessing posture, examining the spine, testing reflexes, joint motion, and muscle strength. X-rays and other diagnostic images are often used to locate vertebral dysfunction and to rule out disorders like tumors or fractures, which require the attention of other health care experts.

Is chiropractic

safe for my child?

Chiropractic is safe for children and babies. Introducing your child to chiropractic services can boost the immune system, reduce stress, and improve posture. It can also alleviate conditions such as ear infections, allergies, asthma, and colic in infants. Hess Chiropractic is family-oriented, so we are here to make sure your loved ones are getting the care they need.

When we see a child in our office, we typically check the spine and adjust if needed to prevent a problem. When we adjust an adult, we are correcting a problem and trying to maintain it. There is a big difference. We'd rather check and prevent in our office rather than waiting until we have to correct and maintain.
